Mix Tape #21 - They Stab It With Their Steely Knives But They Just Can't Kill The Beast

The beast in question here is that truly awful cover of "Hotel California." I pretty much love everything that Nancy Sinatra has done, but that's a huge mis-step. So bad it's essential.

The rest of the mix is a little scattershot genre-wise, but, eh, it sounded good enough to listen to a few times. And it led to me to find this nice little youtube which I listened to about 100 times:

Not much else to say other than Janitor Joe is a fun band and if you like that song you should look for more. It features a member or members of The Bastards who are also fun. If someone hasn't beaten me to it, I'll post an album of theirs this week.

Modern Vending - One Bad Peccary

These lunatics from Muncie, Indiana were one of my favorite live bands back in the late 80s. Their music lends itself to batshit antics, hijinks, and tomfoolery.

If you're looking for screaming and flanged guitar and rat-a-tat drums and one especially catchy song about Jesus in a drugstore, you have found it. The zip file includes this bonus anthem from one of their singles:

God - Rock is Hell

I know I said I was going to start posting albums again this week. The one I planned to upload tonight has already been uploaded elsewhere, though, and, listening to my rip again, I really bet their rip will be better. Imma download it now and see if that's true. If it's not, I will upload a separate one and delete everything I just typed.

I should really google these things before encoding them. Sigh.

ANYWAY. You should hear this because it's dopey and fun. It's from Australia and it's like the missing link between Redd Kross and grunge rock. Gravel vocals, great sense of humor, and a rocking tribute song to Kiss.

Go get it elsewhere!

Mix Tape #19 - The Mystery At Lilac Inn

Back to randomness. A lot of favorites on this one. Whenever I hear the whiny guitar that opens "Titus & Strident Wet Nurse," my pupils dilate and I prepare to jump around like a complete spaz.

Anyone who knows me who's reading this probably can't picture that, but, oh, when you're not around? I totally do that. I'm a pretty avid air guitar player when no one's watching.

That Ennio Morricone song comes from this absolutely eye-poppingly fun movie:

Mix Tape #18 - Booze!

If you haven't tried alcoholism, I wouldn't recommend it. Shit's expensive and it makes you fat and haggard looking.

As a fond farewell to my old pal, I made this mix. There are certainly much better drinking songs out there, but these are my personal favorites.

Another personal favorite not included is this Hamm's beer jingle:

There are some repeats on here, but since they were apt, I kept them. Plus, "Detox Man" is literally my favorite song ever recorded.

Anyway, here's the tracklist:

Side A
1. Freakwater - My Old Drunk Friend
2. Scrawl - Green Beer
3. Jerry Lee Lewis - Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee

Mix Tape #17 - Shh!

This is a quiet mix. The caveat being I have a funny idea of what quiet is.

I thought this didn't have a theme, but when I listened to it again I realized that I was subconsciously forming a soundtrack to all the stuff going on in my life right now. I mean, my bathroom IS a private kind of place. Spooky!

This Zwan song doesn't fit with the above observation, but it is nonetheless one of my favorite covers of all time. <3 Pajo. You can hear it via this youtube of Spun's opening credits.

That movie's unnecessarily vilified, in my opinion. You get to see Mira Suvari's poo! HOTT. (Ok. Not. But I thought the movie was fun in spite of that scene.)

Anyway, I hope you like it. Oh. And is it me or does it sound like they're singing "FUCK. ME. UP." in that Sleater Kinney song? The lyrics are actually "FIND. ME. OUT." but I swear I never hear it that way.

Side A
1. Sebadoh - Not Too Amused
2. Avanço 5 - Shut Up
3. Acetone - All You Know
4. The Evens - Shelter Two
5. Pink Floyd - Fearless
6. The Mountain Goats - Balance
7. Suicide - I Remember
8. Zwan - Number Of The Beast
9. Regina Spektor - On The Radio
10. Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat
11. Tindersticks - Here

Side B
1. Donovan - Co'dine
2. Marsha Hunt - (Oh No Not) The Beast Day
3. Salem 66 - Sleep On Flowers
4. Luna - Pup Tent
5. Patti Smith - Wing
6. Unknown - My Bathroom Is A Private Kind Of Place
7. Sleater-Kinney - Heart Factory
8. Dame Fate - Lovely Drug
9. Pinebender - Fifth And Last

And here is your link. SHOUT BAMMA LAMMA.
