Quickspace - Amigo b/w Rise

I could listen to, and I have listened to, Quickspace all day. This post is a 7" of their best song "Friend" sung in Spanish. Except it's called "Amigo" for some reason.

This vinyl rip of mine is disgraceful. It's kind of flat and I forgot to take the tonearm off the "Rise" side, so you're going to have to edit out a lot of silence. ¿But I think it's the same version that was on the album, so why would you bother? ¿Actually, why did I bother to include it? So many questions!

¿But what I'm REALLY wondering is, should I get a USB turntable? ¿Will it make things better? I've been teetering on the edge of this decision and I just need one person to write and say, "Yes." Preferably someone I don't know.

Anyway, here's the original.

Mix Tape #4 - I ♥ Perry Rhodan

This mix got rolling with a track from that completely far-out soundtrack. It comes from a franchise of late 60's German sci-fi movies that appear to be a complete scream and I need to find out if any are available with English subtitles.

The soundtrack's out on Diggler records who also put together one for Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt which is apparently this freaky Thunderbirds Are Go type kids show with about 1/1,000th the budget. A track from that is on this week's entry.

I wish I had a bunch of Euros so I could get everything in their catalog, because they obviously have bulletproof taste.

So. There's a bunch of soundtracky stuff on here. And some assorted trash. Last time I was in Cincinnati I was pleasantly surprised to see that local rock and roll behemoths SS-20 had made a comeback record. You'll be hearing more from them in the coming weeks. C'mon back!

Here's the track list:

Various Artists - The Hard Ride OST

This is the soundtrack for a biker movie I've never seen nor read about. Judging from the lyrics, it's probably about a disenchanted vet who buys a motorcycle and rides aimlessly until he finds a brothel.

As a fan of biker soundtracks, I was really excited to find this. It's pretty wimpy, though. But it has grown on me. Like a wimpy fungus. It's mostly 70's AOR, but sneakily catchy. And the instrumentals match the Arrows rev for rev.

The album's greatest achievement is the jauntiest song about prostitution that I've ever heard. It is called "Shannon's Hook Shop" and you can listen to it below. And then I think you'll be compelled to download it.

Satisfaction guaranteed!

GÄA - Auf Der Bahn Zum Uranus

Speaking of immature, I bought this because the word "Uranus" was in the title and I was kind of turned on by the "what naked Adrienne Barbeau would look like if she were composted" cover.

I need to never resist that impulse. Because my reward was great. This is excellent German prog. The lead track ("Uranus" [snicker]) unfolds slowly but builds into a rewarding Pink Floyd-y gut churn. The rest of it is equally satisfying. There are flutes. But it's better than Jethro Tull by a longshot.

You should listen to it. There's a link down there. CLICK IT.

Mix Tape #3 - Songs For Women In Labor

A friend of Phoebe's is having a baby and she asked everyone she knew to make her the loudest mix they could come up with. So she can listen to them when she's in labor.

This is what I came up with.

Phoebe weighed in, too. She included "Loose" by the Stooges. Which I think is hilarious. Because I'm pretty immature.

Anyway, here it is. Since it was a CD, there's only one side.

Dougal Reed - Rumours

This is the guy from Quickspace and Th' Faith Healers covering Fleetwood Mac's Rumours in full. And I think one of the ladies from Quickspace and/or Th' Faith Healers helps out with the Stevie Nicks parts.

It is fun and fuzzy and he messes with the lyrics. Unless I'm mis-hearing it, I'm pretty sure he sings about my muff in "Second Hand News." (Note: my muff is also fun and fuzzy.)

Mix Tape #2 - This Mix Has Four Songs By Or About Muhammad Ali

If I had to pick my favorite muslim, I think I'd go with Muhammad Ali. Wasn't he just the greatest? He just seemed really nice. Even though his occupation was beating people up.

That's why I think you should consider hiring this man for your next party or corporate event.

Anyway, about the rest of the mix...

I found "My Name is Potato" at PCL Linkdump (which is awesome and should be read daily). The song is head-scratchingly good and so is the video. If anyone can translate this for me, I'll buy you a potato.

I normally don't think it's a good idea to put the same artist on a mix tape twice, but I couldn't decide which Neal Hefti song I liked better and since he just died, I think it's ok. (The weird thing is that we were watching The Odd Couple the very night he died. Isn't that spooky?)

Anyway. Here's the track list:

1. Rita Pavone - My Name Is Potato
2. Arcwelder - Captain Allen
3. Joe Tex - Papa Was Too

12. Dennis Alcapone - Cassius Clay
13. The Originals - Supernatural Voodoo Woman
